Ecurie Aix uses Simcenter Amesim and Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to reduce cooling system energy consumption

Ecurie Aix, a Formula Student team from RWTH Aachen University, has been designing race cars since 1999, with their first fully electric car debuting in 2022. Formula Student challenges teams to build a race car within a year, competing in static and dynamic disciplines such as endurance, efficiency, and acceleration. To enhance battery thermal management, Ecurie Aix partnered with Siemens Digital Industries Software and utilized a multi-disciplinary approach combining experiments, system simulations (SYS), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Through the Batterie Aix project, Siemens’ solutions like Simcenter Amesim and Simcenter STAR-CCM+ enabled precise battery characterization and optimization. The team gained valuable insights into battery usage, improved simulation models, and reduced cooling system size and weight, giving them a competitive edge. With Siemens' software and support, Ecurie Aix successfully navigated complex challenges, demonstrating the potential of innovative tools in advancing vehicle design and performance.
