Supermicro Systems with Intel® Xeon® 6 Series with E-cores and P-cores: What is the Difference and why does it matter?
Supermicro servers with Intel® Xeon® 6 processors initially come in two configurations and later expanding to additional choices, each offering multiple SKUs (e.g., cores, power, etc.). The processors are categorized into two families, each targeting distinct workloads: energy-efficient cores (E-Cores) and high-performance cores (P-Cores). Unlike previous generations, E-Cores and P-Cores cannot coexist within the same CPU or system configuration. The CPU lines are designated as Intel Xeon 6700E series and Intel Xeon 6900P series.
